Just recently we went to the Year 5 and 6 BP technology challenge at the Motueaka technology centre opposite the library. It is held there each year. 12 schools were there for the day competing in all sorts of challenges like wind powered buggy, catapult and a few more.
First challenge was a catapult challenge where we had to make a catapult out of paper cup, ice-block sticks, kebab skewers, straws, scissors, cellotape and wire. Our catapult only went 25cm but other groups went halfway along the building. We think the trick was to wack the ruler down on a pivot of a paper cup and launch the ping pong ball.
Then the wind powered car after that we had the physical challenge are after that we had marble track then we had a quiz.
All in all we were pleased that we won a challenge. Next year we hope to improve our planning before we start building.
