Maths by Rheanna and Jemma

Maths is important in everyday life. We are learning to be effective mathematicians. This means we use different strategies to work out problems, estimate to check our answers and use materials or number lines to help us.

In our maths group, tapawha, we are learning to use equivalence to add & subtract fractions. This is an example 3/7 + 8/3 = 9/21 + 56/21 = 65/21 or 3 & 2/21.

Tapatoru are learning  read simple, mixed and improper fractions.  For example, 1/3 = simple, 11/2 = improper and 5 1/2 = mixed.

Porowhita are learning to find a whole number when a fraction of a set is given. For example, 24 is 3/4 of 32.

Taimana are learning to convert fractions to percentages. For example, 2/5 = 40/100 = 40%

Now you can see a few ways that we are learning to be effective mathematicians.
What else do you think makes us effective mathematicians?
